Getting Started with Special Education
Understanding the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Process
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) ensures that a student receives the support they need to succeed.
- What can I expect to happen at the IEP meeting?
- How often will we review my child’s IEP? At least once per year, or as amendments are needed.
- Can I request changes to my child’s IEP? The IEP is not a static document; it should be reviewed and revised as needed to ensure it continues to meet the child’s evolving needs.
- My child is in early childhood education. What are the Early Childhood Outcomes they talked about at the meeting?

Parents and students who have reached the age of majority will be notified of this policy at the time their child exits special education services. You also receive this information annually through the Procedural Safeguards Manual.
Records containing personally identifiable information will be destroyed after July 30 of the year in which the individual turns 27 years of age. Therefore, in May, we will be shredding any special education files we have from students born before July 30, 1998.
